Weddings
As an Open and Affirming Church of the United Church of Christ with ministries to diverse communities in Anoka County, we are proud to celebrate with our LGBTQ+ neighbors the right to choose in our lives the partners we love. We are delighted to host and officiate your wedding regardless of gender or sexuality!
A wedding at Anoka UCC is a celebration. Our Pastor is ordained in the UCC and can officiate both as a representative of the Church and of the State, and he promises that you are the most important people in the room that day. We strive to make your wedding day memorable, personable, and fun!
Preparation
Our pastor's practice is to privately meet with you up to three times before the day of the wedding to prepare a service that is worshipful and celebratory. Depending on your marital history, these meetings may include a personality inventory that asks questions you may not have wrestled with before. Otherwise, it's all about getting to know each other; we want your wedding to truly reflect you and your love for each other.
Our church's Wedding Assistant is also available to work with you in completing necessary paperwork, collecting fees, and acting as your go-to person the day of the service. They usually act as "traffic cop" at the wedding Rehearsal, making sure everyone knows where they're supposed to be walking and standing at all times.
The Service
The basic liturgy of a wedding at Anoka UCC typically involves prayer, Scripture, and a short sermon by the Pastor, because a church wedding is also a time to worship God and celebrate the covenant about to be made in God's presence. Our Pastor is happy to enhance your wedding service with readings from elsewhere, unusual musical inspirations, and other ideas you bring in. Our church Keyboardist may be available and brings a profound level of skill and care to the musical aspects of your wedding. We also can accommodate requests for recorded music. You're welcome to bring in loved ones to serve as musicians and readers, as well. Most of all, we want your day to be as joyful as it can be!
